This photo was taken during the middle of the winter. A group of us took two snow cats out to Castle Rock one afternoon. While I was taking this time exposure, one of the other people fired a survival flare into the air causing the red light on the rocks. The single white light in the distance near the base of the rock is Scott Base, the New Zealand research facility.
