This is the San Xavier del Bac Mission located in the Santa Cruz Valley a few miles south of Tucson, AZ. The church was built between 1783 and 1797 by the Franciscan Fathers, Juan Bautista Velderrain and Juan Bautista Llorenz. The building has been under restoration for several years and the West tower (pictured) has been wrapped in scaffolding making it impossible to get decent photographs. Early in 2009, the work was completed and the scaffolding taken down, which is when this photo was taken. Soon the work will continue on the East tower and once again the scaffolding will be the dominant feature on this historic building.
