Early this morning nine lucky people gathered at the Mechanical Equipment Center (MEC) to meet with Tracy and Amy Dahl, our guides, on a trip to a place called "Room with a view". The weather was fantastic, no wind and mostly clear skies streaked with high clouds that reflected the beautiful colors of sunrise.

We boarded a van for a ride to the transition from land to the Ross Ice Shelf, where we would fuel and load several snow mobiles that would be used for our journey. The temperature was 7 degrees Fahrenheit and we quickly found whether or not we had put on sufficient clothing. Packs were opened as we dug out extra gloves, neck gaiters, and chemical hand and foot warmers.
