| At the tip of Hut Point Peninsula, on Ross Island, stands the hut that Captain Robert F. Scott and his
men built for staging their ill-fated attempt in 1911 to be the first men to reach the South Pole. The hut is currently
under the care of the New Zealand Antarctic Preservation Society and is open for guided tours throughout the Austral
summer. Many of the implements and food stores that the expedition brought with them are still in good shape inside the hut.
